5.7.19.6 OBJECTIVE: The objective and purpose of 5.7.19 NMAC is to provide a guideline for implementing the Senior Citizens Reduced Tuition Act of 1984. The purpose of the act is to provide educational opportunities for senior citizens in New Mexico. Each public post-secondary degree-granting institution in New Mexico must grant a reduction in tuition to senior citizens upon request by the student. The charge will be $5 per credit hour.

According to this information it is up to the senior citizen who is 65 or older to contact the institution of their choice and request a reduction in tuition.

  1. A little update to some of this information. New Mexico Junior College (and perhaps the others as well, didn't check) no longer waives fees for over 55. They waive tuition. See page 3 of this link: http://www.nmjc.edu/aboutnmjc/15-16Catalog.pdf

   I have not successfully found a specific statute or law reguarding senior citizens recieving tuition waivers or discounts.  Many colleges offer discounted tuition, tuition waivers for auditing courses, and various educational opportunities for senior citizens.  Check the list below and click on links that have additional information regarding educational opportunities.
