This has been a work in progress. I have searched and only found a small amount of information. I even called the California Department of Education and left a message with my e-mail address, and I am still waiting for a response. If anyone can help me in my quest for educational waivers in the state of California it would be much appreciated. This is all I have so far.

http://calstate.edu/budget/student-fees/fee-waivers/discretionary.shtml#age - California State University waivers for Senior Citizens (60 and above)
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco State University had a program for over 60 year olds but have cancelled it now and will only honor current students.
ReplyDeleteI had looked forward to taking advantage of free or low cost courses when I retired in 2012. I found that they are few and far between in my area of California. The best I have found are offered by the Center for Lifelong Learning, associated with Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara. Courses are many and varied and of excellent quality, but are no longer free. Tuition for most classes is $5 hour, not including lab and materials fees, if indicated. Costs end up being $30 - $150 per course, depending on length. I drive 60 miles RT a couple of times a week to take advantage of this unique offering.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't find a direct link to a program. What I did find was this mention, in a larger discussion about the CSU budget, here: http://www.calstate.edu/budget/fybudget/presentations-communications/budget-strategies/tuition-fees.shtml#dif
ReplyDelete"Waivers for seniors over 60 is the only age-based tuition waiver offered within CSU. These waivers are generally offered on a space-available basis (meaning there is an unfilled seat within the class of interest), so it is unlikely there is a significant “cost” or revenue loss to CSU associated with the provision of these waivers."

DeleteDo this! I will be walking with my BA In Liberal Studies in 6 weeks. Began in 2012, bringing with me 6 classes from my Cal State studies in the 1980s and my AA from a community college in 1979. Ive paid $5 per quarter, so my degree was under $100. The academics are a very rigorous regimen but well worth the struggle. Do this and it will keep you young. Guaranteed you'll finish at the top of the class! One of the benefits of being over 60...the work ethic you'll bring.
ReplyDeleteMy email is plabrie32@msn.com Which college did you attend? Thank you. Patricia
DeleteCSU East Bay has an over 60 program. I know two ladies who used this to get their Masters.
