Alabama: Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver and Discount

This is a comprehensive guide for all senior citizen tuition waivers, discounts, and auditable classes in the state of Alabama.  I am working hard to get the information up-to-date covering all fifty states, which is quite a feat.  To stay informed on all free classes for seniors near me, check back often for the most recent updates.

In Alabama, senior citizens may be eligible for a waiver of tuition fees at state-supported colleges and universities.  The waiver applies to residents of  Alabama who are 60 years of age or older and who are not seeking a degree. They must also meet certain academic requirements and may be required to pay certain fees

It is advisable to check with the specific college or university for more information on their senior citizen tuition waiver program and requirements to qualify.  I have listed the participating Alabama colleges and their financial aid contacts below:

  1. It would be nice if Alabama gave more toward seniors pursuing a college degree. Most states offer waivers for a 4 year degree and 50 percent deductions on books. Alabama can do more toward education.

    1. I think Alabama could easily give more to seniors pursuing a college degree by providing two more years of tuition waiver. The purchase of books should be the responsibility of the person pursuing the degree. That is a good compromise between the needs of both parties.

    2. I agree that Ala needs to do more. I would like to point out that ATHENS STATE UNIVSITY is not on the list. Athens is a 2yr SENIOR college (Junior and Senior years) that follows the above tuition discount. I know becasue I took advantage of it to get a BA. It applies to their online courses as well.

  3. When you look and listen to many Alabamians it's obvious that the state could care less about education so why would they give seniors any special consideration.

  4. Does anyone know of a 4 year institution that offers a program for seniors?

  6. There should be nationwide tuition waiver for over 60 years old, for undergraduate and graduate including doctoral programs. It discriminates against seniors who are not state residents.
